The top issue facing Scugog is overdevelopment. My first priority if elected will be to ensure that growth is managed responsibly. While development pressure comes from provincial and federal levels, Council must be able to say no to development unless it has a clear benefit our community. Our infrastructure and essential services are already strained, and many residents are deeply concerned about the large proposed projects like the one on Reach Street.

If elected as Regional Councillor, I would like to be able to keep property taxes low by negotiating much needed funding from the region or with grant applications or other sources. I would like to promote and help our families, businesses and farmers prosper by reducing wasteful spending and keeping any costs as low as possible. Some of my priorities include; repairing regional roads, improving access to public health and promoting health prevention initiatives, cleaning up Lake Scugog, helping to protect and enhance the Port Perry Fair Grounds, scaling back the Reach Street Development to ensure development doesn't overwhelm infrastructure and needs and helping to bring our community together with respectful dialogue and fairness towards all.

As a small business owner myself, I understand the pressures of running a business and managing staff and clients. If elected as Regional Councillor, I would work to reduce unnecessary costs and work with stakeholders to promote our businesses regionally and beyond to ensure revenue streams are healthy and growing.

Scugog’s heritage is one of the main reasons tourists visit and is one of our greatest economic assets. People come to Port Perry for its unique small-town character, beautiful Lake Scugog, and vibrant shops and restaurants. Residents enjoy living here because of our unique identity and quaint smalltown vibe. Our historic downtown, stunning waterfront, rich farming community and Fair all contribute to that identity. Heritage preservation should be a priority in all planning decisions because it supports tourism, economic development, and Scugog’s Heritage is one of one of the reasons we have so many tourists visiting and one of our greatest economic assets. Heritage preservation also is a significant contributor to our local identity and culture.

Residents know that I have been speaking out of serious issues facing our community for several years. My integrity and courage are unquestionable. I will always do what is right and in the best interests of our residents. I have had decades of experience in leadership, team-building and negotiation which are all skills needed at the Regional level. In addition, my high energy and strong work ethic combined with my subject matter expertise and knowledge in a number of areas within the regional portfolio will ensure I am making the most out of every opportunity to advocate for our Scugog community. My goal will be to help our community be healthier and more prosperous.
